Payroll and Pay Runs

Payroll is an optional subscription feature with the slug payroll. It adds payment review and status tracking without replacing existing wage history or reports.

Employee pay is managed through Users → Manage Wages. Payroll reads those same dated wage records; there is no second compensation setup.

Wages and existing reports

  • Hourly reporting rate: remains the rate used by existing project, team, dashboard, PDF, and CSV cost reports.
  • Pay basis: Payroll-enabled companies may mark a wage as hourly or monthly salary.
  • Monthly salary: is added alongside the hourly reporting rate and is used to calculate payroll amount owed.
  • Maximum hours per month: remains in Manage Wages and requires the Custom Work Hours subscription entitlement.

Existing cost reports show tracked cost, which is tracked hours multiplied by the reporting rate. That remains separate from payroll salary, approval, and payment status.

Permissions

  • Manage Wages: manage the dated wage history used by reports and payroll.
  • View Payroll: view the company payroll centre.
  • Manage Payroll: prepare and submit pay runs.
  • Approve Payroll: approve a submitted pay run.
  • Mark Payroll Paid: record payment for an employee.
  • View Own Payroll: view personal amount-owed and payment-status history.

What payroll stores

Pay runs and employee items retain only the information needed for draft, approval, outstanding, and paid history. Payment is recorded per employee so one late payment does not mark everyone as paid. WorkPulse records the status; it does not transfer money or confirm bank settlement.
